𓆏 modelling the frog characters 𓆏 The first thing I approached was the player character- Frogboy. I had been watching tutorials on Linkedin Learning to understand the basics of Blender before downloading the program, but I knew I needed to start working to remember it all. Luckily I found a tutorial on youtube on how to make a frog character in Blender, but it wasn't meant for video game characters. I was able to learn basic modelling commands through following along to an extent, but had to apply my own knowledge from class lectures as well as take my own creative liberties. For example- when extending a shape, it's very important to merge overlapping vertices, otherwise the model becomes very confusing and messy. (I talk more about how I fixed this issue on the "Trials and Errors" page) Also, the tutorial was for a smooth, detailed character, but I chose a more low-poly "blocky" artstyle. |
The first object I made was the powerline. I didn't find it too complicated since it was made of simple symmetrical shapes. When applying the materials I noticed that I could change the kind of surface the object had. I gave the metal poles and screws a "metallic" effect, and increased the "roughness" of the tower so it would be less reflective in the light and appear more like wood. I also wanted to make it look more low-poly so I added the "decimate" modifier, which reduces the number of vertices.
I also wanted to add wires connecting them together, but I planned to do that once everything else was finished. |
